1962 Rolex Day-Date Reference 1803 In Gold

1962 Rolex Day-Date Reference 1803 In Gold

Why This Watch Matters

This Rolex Day-Date is a beautiful example with a rich, even patina across the dial. Plus, the Spanish calendar adds an extra level of exotic feel to the watch.

The Full Story

The Day-Date is the epitome of a luxury timepiece. Originally released in 1956, it still remains the “power” watch, thanks to its associations being worn on the wrists of preeminent global players, from politicians to entertainers throughout the decades. The well-balanced dial, as well as the day and date display, were innovative for the time. The early examples of the Day-Date were fitted with the more unusual alpha hands, which were carried over from previous decades, as they appeared in some of the Bubbleback models and chronographs from the 1940s and 1950s, such as the reference 6234. The Day-Date models were fitted with calendars in various languages, and this one comes with a Spanish version. The overall aesthetics of this piece conjures up a romantic vintage feel that we love.

The alpha hands add an extra vintage touch, as they appeared more often in the '40s and '50s pieces, and less later on.
