1968 Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 Full Set

1968 Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 Full Set

Why This Watch Matters

Full set, meters first, 5513.

The Full Story

Rolex introduced the 5513 in the early 1960s with a glossy dial, following it with a matte dial version from 1966 to approximately 1984. Instantly recognizable, the non-date dial with two-lines of text above six o'clock has become one of the most popular watches of all time. The example we have here is quite special due to its great condition and the fact that it comes with the original box and papers. It even has the original anchor and cigarette card. The cigarette card advised the watch's new owner to throw out the contents of the box and use it to store cigarettes in. Leave it to Rolex to suggest how its customers should “recycle” their watch boxes. This model comes on its original Oyster rivet bracelet, adding to the vintage charm. Another noteworthy detail is that the watch has retained its original crown thanks to the presence of the classic Coronet logo – sans three dots.
