1981 Rolex Datejust 26mm Ref. 6917 In Two-Tone

1981 Rolex Datejust 26mm Ref. 6917 In Two-Tone

Why This Watch Matters

Nothing more chic.

The Full Story

The Datejust has remained Rolex's mainstay model since the brand introduced it in 1945. The example we have here, a 26mm two-tone Datejust, is rumored to be the best selling watch Rolex has ever produced. This is just a classic choice from the Crown, with a white dial and Oyster bracelet there is nothing more chic.

Our example here is a timeless variation, it is this watch that carried the 26mm Datejust to be the best selling model in the catalog. Our example is in excellent condition as well, with a sharp case, a nice patina on the dial, and almost no stretch at all to the bracelet. If you've been looking for one of these, look no further.

What We Love And What You Should Know

Things We Love:

  • Two-tone case and Oyster bracelet
  • Fluted gold bezel
  • White "porcelain" dial

Things To Know:

  • Light scratches on case and bracelet
  • Two different end link reference numbers

This Datejust is in overall very good condition. The case is in strong condition with light scratches. The case appears to have been polished. The back of the lugs have scratches that are likely from the bracelet being taken off and on. The caseback has scratches.

The white "porcelain" dial is in good condition with some very light patina throughout. The lume on the dial has turned to an even light buttery yellow color. The hands show some patina. The lume in the hands matches that of the dial very well.

The Oyster bracelet has some very light stretch. The clasp is marked "E14," indicating a 1980 manufacture, corresponding to the case number within reason. The case, dial, movement, crown, and bracelet are signed by Rolex. This watch was photographed on a 145mm/5.5inch wrist.
